25 years of experience, 22 years in business. I still operate my own business so the knowledge, skills and training I provide are current or relevant to what is happening in the industry today. I am not just a trainer or teacher, I have up-to-date, real world experience. This is valuable since I can offer more than just knowledge on how to tint car windows, I can give students (those that are interested in starting their own business) great insights and direction for how to start and maintain their own tinting business. Not only that, they’re learning at my real-world shop, not just a classroom. They can see how I have set up my business and installation facility.
I have written the curriculum and developed the techniques for installation all by myself. I’ve done this to make the process as easily understandable as possible. I not only explain the how of how to do the install but the why. If a student understands why we do something a particular way, the whole process makes more sense and they can more fluidly transition from one step to the next, resulting in consistently and higher quality workmanship.
I’ve written (by myself) the curriculum and final examination. Passing this written test will show me and the students themselves that they have a good foundation for success, they understand the why and how of each step in the process as well as the correct order of the steps. I want them to be equipped with a good foundation for when/if they go on to start their own business or work for a company, they’re confident in their ability and knowledge of window tinting. This written curriculum is also available for them when they leave. They’ll be able to reference it whenever/if they forget a step or method after completing their training.
Not only will they need to pass a written final exam, they’ll also have to demonstrate their new found skills for evaluation. Students will demonstrate the whole process from start to finish without any advice, help or input. This isn’t so much a ‘pass or fail’ exam as much as it makes clear for me and for them where they need to practice and further develop a particular step or technique in order to be successful. Again, my goal is to have a student grasp the why of each step so that if they need practice in an area, it isn’t because they don’t understand the concept, rather they only need to train their hands to work or move in a particular way. After passing the written exam and evaluation, they will receive a certificate of completion to display (if they’re opening their own business) or show to a future employer.
I only have 1 to 4 students at most. Perhaps there would be a rare circumstance where I would or could take more than 4 students but you lose the benefit of one-on-one, highly personal instruction with too many students. Since I have small class sizes, I have flexibility with scheduling. I can take on a student almost anytime. One-on-One is actually preferred so this would be the preferred way to teach.
I have packed the training into only 3 days. I have broken down the whole process into step-by-step sequence, building off of each previous step, resulting in consistent, high quality results. I believe that what I have developed is sufficient, in as short a time as possible, to get the student confident and ready for employment or self-employment right away. After their training, they will have to practice what they have learned but with the proper training and understanding, they should only need repetitive practice of what they have been taught, training their hands to do the work that they understand after training in their minds.
I also offer a one day refresher for experienced or veteran installers that may only need to be reminded or instructed on a particular step in the process. Oftentimes we know how to do everything, but we struggle in one particular area. A one day refresher course could make a huge difference for someone that is stuck in a rut or only struggling in one area.
